My Blogroll

I’ve never given up on RSS and I have been hosting my own FreshRSS instance for quite some time now to support my needs of following many websites that have my interest. RSS is not dead for sure, and becoming more and more valuable now that people are moving towards the decentralized web.

FreshRSS has a cool feature, you can subscribe to OPML files created by others, say someones blogroll, resulting in dynamically populated RSS feeds. By subscribing to other people’s blogrolls I’m able to dynamically follow new content being written elsewhere on the web. The idea is simple, follow the blogroll of someone you find interesting and you will probably find more interesting content through their network too.

So, here is my contribution with my carefully curated list of goto websites (Dutch and English). These websites are in the categories of Apple, Technology, Arts, Photography, Nature, Leadership and Formula 1.

One by One

I finished reading ‘One by One’ by Chris Carter last night. One by One is the fifth book in the series about detective Robert Hunter and his partner Garcia. I’ve been reading the first five books in Dutch and enjoyed all of them until now. These crime stories are easy to read and help me relax at the end of the day or during travels.

There are thirteen books written in this series till date. From book 6 onwards they aren’t translated to Dutch yet, so I will be switching to the English versions from now on.

I’m starting with ‘An evil mind’ tonight.

30 minute recovery

I did an early Wednesday morning run instead of my regular Tuesday morning runs. This was a regular recovery run, only 30 minutes long to keep the body in motion. I love these morning runs, they immediately increase my resilience for the rest of the day.

This is probably my last run for the next 1.5 weeks as I’m going for a winter holiday in the Alps. I will bring my running gear along, although it’s usually hard to find the time to combine running with snowboarding and skiing with the family.

80 minutes

After my fartlek from yesterday, I managed to squeeze a second run in for this week. This time a 80 minute tempo run where I mixed up things a bit by running different paces.

This was a good run when it comes to being patient and in control. Now on to another week. I’m flying to the UK early tomorrow for two days with my team over there, then another two days working in Rotterdam before we go on our family skiing holiday to Austria.

20 minute Fartlek

This is my first run of this week. I had to break my routine of three runs a week this week due to major renovation work in our house. Because of that work, I didn’t have any time in the morning or evening this week to put in a run.

My ‘comeback run’ today was the same 20 minute Fartlek as this one, which I did on January 27th. The beauty of these fixed time runs is that you can compare them, and use them to see your progression over time.

Today I wasn’t able to do the same distance as on the previous one, too bad. There will be another chance.

Tapestry

It’s a bold claim to say you can make a universal timeline for the Internet.

But you can. And we have.

This post will explain the technology behind Project Tapestry and how we tested it as a prototype. We’ll keep this discussion at a fairly basic level: if you’re a web or app developer, you’ll have no problems following along.

And if you think I’m going to describe RSS feeds now, think again! We’ve come up with something completely new.

The team at Iconfactory wrote a nice blog article on their project ‘Tapestry’. I backed this project on Kickstarter last week as I believe they are on to something with Tapestry. The article is worth the read if you are into product and tech and a bit tech savvy.
